Creating Sitemap Using Blogger Sitemap Generator

Sitemap is a page in your site/blog that has all of the links in your site/blog. There are 2 kind sitemaps: HTML sitemap and XML sitemap.What I want to talk about is submitting your xml sitemap into Google, Yahoo and Bing using sitemap generator.
There is a fact that if you using Feedburner, submitting your default Blogspot's sitemap URL into Google webmaster tool is a little bit hassle. It because an error massage will come up after you submitted your Blogspot's default sitemap URL. That problem can be fixed by adding this code; ?redirect=false. So it will looks like this;

http://yourblogname.com/atom.xml?redirect=false

In other hand, the Blogspot's default site map URL should be like this;

http://yourblogname.com/atom.xml

After you submitted it, the error massage will disappear but then you will face another problem which is page indexing limitation. Google only indexed your blog pages up to 20 pages/posts! What? Are you kidding me? No, I'm not kidding.

But you don't have to worry I have the solution for that, which is generating site map URL by using Blogger Sitemap Generator.

You can find the program in this site:

http://digitalinspiration.com/bloggers/sitemap/index.php (no need to sign up).

Just type your blog's URL into its entry box then click the submit button.

The result of your new sitemap URL will look like this:

Blogger sitemap generator has links for submitting to Yahoo and Bing automatically as you on the screen.

After you have the URL now it's time to submit it into Google webmaster tool.

1. Log in to Google Webmaster Tool

2. Click your blog link and then click the site configuration menu

3. Click the site map menu then click submit site map button

4. Paste the URL from sitemap generator

And that's it; you have fixed the above problems. You have to wait for the result; your blog will be indexed up to 24 hours. Congratulation!

@ computer help: I thought that you can't put HTML site map on blogger, but if you wish to do so, you should put the HTML code on page post not on the sidebar. not like wordpress blogger doesn't has a static page which can be set as HTML sitemap (archieve), but you still can make HTML sitemap by making a table of content post. for further information you can browse at http://www.bloggerbuster.com/2009/09/how-to-create-sitemap-with-google-feed.html

The reason why a blogger continues to add content is to see a steady traffic growth. Without proper indexing, only your home page will rank on the search results, showing you a horizontal jagged line on traffic analytics. We prefer jagged climb instead.

It's great that this tool has been released as open source for deployment by hosting companies but for me either an online generator tool (built by Google) or a sitemap generation script that I can download from Google Code would be more useful right now :-)
